What's new in DIAMANT-Film Restoration V9
DIAMANT-FILM is optimized for the latest Windows operating system Microsoft Windows 10.
The use of GPU graphic-card features (NVIDIA CUDA) for high quality and performant automatic object detection and tracking has been further improved, resulting in a balanced utilization of GPU and CPU compute resources.
Overall a speed improvement up to 50% could be achieved (based on 4K Dust&Dirt removal and compared to V8).
The playback engine has been speeded up to address faster playback and stepping in ultra-high resolutions. Also the new “bounce at filter range” comes in handy when looking at a specific filter result.
Rendering via JobManager have been improved to allow better balancing the workload between main workstation and additional render client respectively background rendering.
The toolbar has been improved and allows easier switching between the different ROI types and selection/pan mode. Next to the mouse pointer we show now the active tool and ROI type. The rectangular ROI also shows now the softness of the ROI.
Alpha channel support enhancements have been made which allows to use alpha masks from external source, more scanners are supported, the mask display has been improved and also the mask can be modified by operations like (enlarge, reduce, invert).
A new advanced caching method has been added which allows for persistent caching between the tool track and the filter tracks. This improves the interactive work over filters.
With the new Template Filter you can create a new filter consisting of several filters with preset paramets. For example if you use very often two filters together like Stabilize & DFlicker above each other, you can select both filter and in the parameter widget the template editor will appear which allows to create a new template. Such a template can be used in future similar like a single filter, but when inserted it would insert this two filters in this example.
Support for new LUT formats like the Adobe Cube has been added.
A new filter focusing on usage of the infra-red information embedded in the image, originating from supported scanners like the ARRISCAN, SCANITY, Director and Northlight has been implemented. Since an accurate defect map is available and a sophisticated reveal method in the repair function is implemented, an almost 100% artefact free fully automatic repair is possible.
The integration of tablets has been optimized, specifically for interactive repair.
In order to use the tablet properly, the global configuration parameter “use tablet pressure” inside RM+ needs to be deactivated. Furthermore the available buttons on the tablet should be configured in the operating system according to the individual preferences of the operator. Specifically important is also a proper mapping between mouse buttons and Pen/tablet buttons.

- A new shortcut for Zoom IN/OUT has been made: Shift+<middle Pen/Mouse Button>Crop Tool
Super Batch Renderer
There are different ways to use the new batch renderer.
1. Pre-process a sequence to generate shot information and proxies
2. Re-Render project(s) over multiple generations
3. Prepare projects to be rendered and start renderings of several projects at once (including pre-processing)
4. Multi select for better configuration and handling
5. Single batch render instance with prioritization of batch rendering
6. Auto export after rendering
This allows to automatically render several projects over several generations in a batch mode allowing to prepare several jobs and render them automatically for example over night or over the week-end in the background. The batch renderer makes full use of the render farm if available. After the rendering an automatic export to the final destination and format is possible.
A new set of tracking functions (Tracker) is integrated in V9. Based on tracking information operator controlled stabilisation can be applied, but it is also possible to connect ROIs with Trackers and create therefore semi-automatically sensitive filter zones.
To do so, there are 2 types of trackers: Track Points and Track ROI.
Support for horizontal scratch added. There is an additional repair mode for scratches available, based on the well known and high-quality ExInPaint.
Support for scale and rotation has been added.
Added timecode support in the export. Exporting by selecting a specific shot number is possible now. New format like PNG has been added. Exporting as hardlinks is possible, at least on the same volume. Significant speed improvements when exporting videos such as Quicktime ProRes. Applying a LUT render during export has been added. The Exporter and Importer have now the option to use favourites to make it easier to navigate to the locations which are used very often.
A workflow integration with the Baselight color corrector has been done. It is now possible to connect to the Baselight repository to import projects directly from there.
New filters have been added dedicated to video related problems. For example a Digi-Beta Dropout Removal. Workflow and handling of interlaced material has been significantly streamlined.

In total we have incorporated almost uncountable new features and improvements.
